Inspired by the emotion of the Auckland Domain, The Domain Collection commissioned a series of works that captured the endless landscapes and intangible beauty of Auckland's great space.
One of New Zealands most recognisable artists, Maughan's work explores the cultural space of gardens, capturing their fantasy like worlds through his exaggerated aesthetic. His use of colour and simplified compositions offer a contemporary take on one of paintings most traditional subjects.
Straight’s practice explores the importance of the built environment and urban landscapes on the everyday lives of those who inhabit them. He explores the often under-appreciated yet culturally and aesthetically significant aspects of the New Zealand landscape. Straight was commisioned to capture the most intimate moments within the Domain, Newmarket and Parnell.
Tim D’s work is the result of exploration, real-life encounters, and traditional dark room development which result in an authentic documentarian aesthetic. The subjects he captures are supported by the subtle context in which they sit, creating something that feels raw and personal. Tim D was commissioned by The Domain Collection to capture the residents of the Domain in their love of the space.
